I understand when you mean "best lens". The sharpness on the first shot is much better than the second. Probably due to plane of focus. :? Though the 70-300G should've been much much better.

Dogs make great subjects as they never complain. My latest Magnus, is what re-sparked my interest in photography. We went to the breeder today to see about getting another one. It was a great opportunity to take some pictures, but they only show how much work I need.

Thats a cute shot. but I don't understand how their white fur picked up so much blue from the backdrop?

Thanks doc. I think your right. I haven't had much time to excersize the 70-300g but it looks like every shot i've taken is slightly backfocused. i'll check it out tomorrow . hope i don't have to send it in :/ theres is no reason why that above shot should be OOF but the 6 or 8 I took all look the same. and previous shots are similar

They look like great dogs! First pic is really nice :D , the second one I'd have cropped less, esp. on the right side.

Hmmm have tried on a 1440 pix wide screen - I can see the entire dog but there is an eye-line (dogs viewing direction) and I thought there should be more space that way (but that's just me). Focus - hard to say  I'd say the hair is sharpest on his chest.

that might be right them. I had spot focused on her right eye and that does look in focus and is about onthe same plane as her chest. the DOF should have been 2- 2.5" I still worry this lens isn't focusing accurately

I think this was in the first dozen or so pictures I took on my a700. The camera was a wedding present, and this dog was hanging around as we were setting up for the reception.

Javelin,

I'm not sure where the blue on the dogs breast came from. I son't see it in the arw file, must have something to do with the save for web function in PSE7.

Hey! It's another 50mm wide open! The trick is to get the eyes in focus, I think. You did an excellent job.
