Do NOT buy Sunpak filters

Unread post by KevinBarrett »

My very last find at the Circuit City liquidation was a pair of Duracell CR2 batteries (for my Maxxum 5), and a Sunpack 67mm Circular Polarizer, all for $9.50. I already had a Nikon CPL, but couldn't turn down a cheap extra filter for just $5 to play with stacking and what-not.

That filter, however, has cost me quite a bit more than $5, as it has contaminated my lens pen with some kind of ooze, possibly an adhesive used in its construction.

Just wanted to put out the warning, do NOT buy Sunpak CPLs, or if you have, don't leave one on your lens when you aren't using it. The gunk came from around the inside, between the metal and the inner surface of glass, and creates a smeary residue when brushed or cleaned away, demanding more vigorous cleaning methods.
