Nature eats everything

We live in an old (120yrs) farmhouse. and every spring we get cluster flies. I didn't know much about them. they look like house flies until you get up close to them. they fly poorly, like they have no control and are always running into things. the trouble is as soon as we get a warm day lots of them show up fully formed as if out of thin air and gather in the windows. we haven't had much luck preventing them from appearing but this year I started remodeling the bathroom so it's a mess of bare floor and drywall. in there a spider has taken up residence in the window where the cluster flies wind up. and this guy kills about 30 of them a day. he is by far the best remedy we've had for it, if I can just convince the girls from hitting it with a shoe for a few more weeks but he's getting big and scarey.




These were a couple of shots of fungi that was eating a tree. before the buds are even out on the living trees this stuff is already at work and providing some colour to an otherwise bleak forest.

Hi,

Lovely and interesting details one could easilly miss the beauty of while wandering around. I always look out for such fungi; they are good evidence to remind us that nature works in mysterious ways with a deeper sense of life.

I also like the spider that's been 'helpful' to you in decreasing fly population...

Thanks. the spider was 100mm macro the next 2 were the 28-135 in the macro range. lit with wireless flash becaue it was a really dark valley off trail near a river and waterfall I was trying to get to. I gave up, it was getting too dangerous without a safety line
