Old, derelict buildings

Here is an old house in Meteora, Greece. I took this photo in 2001 and it is a scanned negative.

This Greek house looks interesting too, especially the way it's situated in a haven of nature.

This time I have a derelict very old high-rise, dating from around 1950-60s in the city of Istanbul. I hope it fits in with the title of the thread. You know my tendecy to go for awkard angles, therefore you'll have to excuse what you see as odd but criticism is welcome.

This is Österskog on Öland, Sweden. It was a small village that was abandoned in the late 1800. The roof is obviously newer, probably to preserve the house.

The place is a km from the nearest road, you have to walk through a forest to get there. Man it was completely quiet there, I got the chills walking around there.

Yildiz, that building looks more like mid-20th century (1950s to 1970s) to me. Are you sure it is early 20th century? I like your photos though!

fastson, I can imagine the feeling of walking around that old, deserted farmhouse and feeling the silence all around.

This is at Elkhorn Slough in California in 1993 (scanned B&W negative).

Hey bakubo,

You're right. The building was built sometime between 1946-1962. I just checked from arial photomap of 1946 and the piece of land was unoccupied at that time, but the building exits in all satellite photos since 1962. I have to check for an exact date. The maps mislead me, though the structure screams 'I am a modern-times concrete structure!'. It must be constructed around the same time with the Hilton Hotel in Istanbul, which was one one of the earliest modern structures in Turkey at the time.

Thanks for pointing that out....I had a creepy feeling about the facts myself.

A few years down the road people will be taking photos of those sheds, wondering why they are there, why abandoned, etc. They are almost there!

A couple from last weekend when I took the kids out to the woods. We stopped to see an older lady I know, and I took these of the house she grew up in. About 4 years ago, I helped her clean out everything she wanted to save - antique chandeliers, the old family plate set, etc. Now it's about to fall down on its own. BTW, she has a KM film camera that she keeps around, even tho' she does most of her shooting now on an P&S digital.

Look at this house and you'll see that her Dad didn't want to be trapped inside. There are 3 doors in the front, 2 on the east side and one in the back (no photo)! She still lives on the property, and in the second pick you can see a corner of the new house. Next time I'll take a few of her barn, it's in even worse shape.

I had a bit of a look for old buildings, so far this is the oldest most run down one I could find, it probably will disappear soon.

Wow, Greg! Do get inside that building before it disappears, I'm sure it's as fantastic inside as it is outside. That reminds me, I used to do photo shoots with friends when I was in college and we would often, um, sneak in to the the derelict buildings around Marshall Texas. This was more or less how I charmed my wife the first time we met.
