Problems with YUDU

Hello David,

A few minutes ago I attempted to subscribe to Photoworld through YUDU, using PayPal for payment. I keep a balance with PayPal specifically for making "instant" purchases without putting either a credit card or bank account number on-line - which may be excessive, but it helps me think that I am a little more secure from identity theft.

I found that when attempting to pay YUDU via PayPal, the only options available to me are either an eCheck from my bank account, or a credit card. Accordingly, I backed out of the purchase until I can identify what is happening, and figure out how to pay using the funds in my PayPal account.

In the last decade I have previously used the funds in my PayPal account to make make dozens - perhaps hundreds - of purchases via PayPal without ever encountering such a problem. Any suggestions on how to resolve this?

As you can see from this post, it worked fine for me. I did use my PayPal account with no difficulty although I don't maintain a balance as you describe.

Hope it works for you though, IMHO it really is worth it.

If your funds are not in the same currency, Paypal with try to charge your card/bank instead of converting the funds. So just select to pay YUDU in the same currency you have funds, or convert some funds to GBP first in Paypal. I try to keep some dollar funds as well as pounds in my Paypal for this reason.

I had no luck with this approach. I attempted to go from the YUDU web site and specifically pay in US dollars, but had the same problem as before. I can go to PayPal and attempt to send money in GB pounds from there, but I have to have an e-mail address for that, not a web site. It's not clear that using the general e-mail address for YUDU would insure that the funds would be correctly directed to you, so I just backed out of the effort again. I am going to e-mail YUDU and see if they can tell me how make this happen using funds I have in my PayPal account. If all else fails, I may eventually let YUDU use an e-check on my bank account, but I would prefer to avoid that.

The email you register with YUDU has to be the same one you use for Paypal, maybe?

It is the same e-mail address in each case, so that is not the cause.

Well, I see no need to take up your time with what is actually a YUDU/PayPal problem, so don't spend any more time on the issue. One way or another I'll resolve the problem.

I had the reverse happen to me, wanted to pay by credit card, (PayPal
exchange rates are not the best) would not let me use credit card, so
I used PayPal. Only a small amount anyway. Good news is I now have
access to all those great PW Magazines :^)

I finally gave up on attempting to pay with the funds in my PayPal account and attempted to use a credit card. Just as you encountered, it also refused to let me do that!

It appears that the only way I am going to be able to do this is to open a new PayPal account that is linked to a credit card. I'm in the process of doing that, but it is a process that takes DAYS, as they are charging a nominal amount to my card, after which I have to get the details from my account, return to PayPal, and provide the details of the "purchase" on my card to PayPal. THEN I am supposed to be able to be able to pay YUDU. This is definitely not going to be an impulse purchase!
