Replacement LCD screens?

Unread post by chmodx »

I'm using a Sony Alpha A350. The LCD screen is pretty dim in sunlight, it's barely readable. I'm not sure a new LCD is the way to go, but anyone know of replacement ones? I do like the new 230/330/380 series with the white backgrounds and black text, much easier to see. Wish a firmware update came out that would do that, but then Sony wouldn't make as much money.

I don't have a A350 but both the A100 and A700 have menu options to increase the LCD brightness.
Check the manual for instructions how to do this.
All such screens will suffer in bright sunlight as do mine, try shading it from direct sunlight or look for one of the small hoods which can be found to shield it.

Being honest that is a valid point, A200 is not good in strong light screen wise, mind you the 5d wasn't any great shakes either.

A high contrast option would be of use, so I can agree on that. Don't mention "firmware update" though, I doubt we will get it
One other complaint  , the Sony lcd screens are a joke durability wise, so easy to mark, this was not the case on the 5d, which has been unprotected since day one, mark free. I scratched the ist A200 I had on the ist day! And I really do look after my stuff. Maybe a ploy to sell screen protectors?? (I have one for the A200)

I'm not sure about the A200 (mines loaned out) but my A700 in very bright light can still be read. even in really bright glare there is sort of a diferent texture where the writing is even though you can't see the backlight or the colours. the writing sort of looks copper in colour and is plain to see.

Maybe your display is just dimmed. Press and hold the Display button, then you can set the display brightness. I found this by accident, it is much quicker than searching in menu (page 122 of the Instruction Manual).
