Yes, with the A700 the 18-250mm and 11-18mm are my current favorite travel combo. I also carry a 50mm f1.7, but a 35mm f2 would be better since 50mm is too long for general use on APS-C. While the cost of the 16-80mm and 70-300mm are not major factors for me, the size, weight, and many lens changes are what keeps me from getting them.
