Hello,
Just received my 135 cz. While doing a few trial shot I noticed that the focus ring tends to rotate when AF if I hold the ring for support. Otherwise if left alone, it doesn't rotate during AF. Is it normal? It's annoying .. when it rotates and if I am holding it, AF motor has too much load and it makes weird sound, as if it'll crash.
The AF ring is huge .. there is no room to hold the lens without touching it.
Please help. I can still send the lens back and get a new copy. I'll out of US soon.
Thanks
Ayan

It definitely should not rotate (I am assuming you mean that the camera makes the ring rotate and not that it is loose so you can rotate it). I know of no settings on the camera that would cause this to happen, so I think you should take it back.

Agreed. I do not have one here, but I have used it and can not remember any such problem. You could try setting DMF (direct manual focus) on the camera to see if this changes the clutch behaviour.

Thanks. Clutch behavior is weird. in MF .. it rotates just fine, smooth. in AF, if I don't touch/hold the AF ring, it doesn't rotate. If I hold the AF ring, it seems in 5% cases, AF ring gets engaged with AF motor. and tries to rotate, and suddenly dis-engage. In other 95% case, it just wiggles a bit but doesn't rotate.David Kilpatrick wrote:Agreed. I do not have one here, but I have used it and can not remember any such problem. Problem is the AF ring is so big, there is no room to hold the lens w/o touching the ring.
This a heck of a lens .. soooo sharp at f/2 and awesome bokeh. Way ahead of 70-200.
Thanks
