Samyang 14mm f2.8

Unread post by bfitzgerald »

Found some raw samples (Nikon D3x)

http://www.samyang.pl/art,5,download

Only looked at the middle one, but for the price (what £250-£280 odd ebay) ..have to say it's not bad at all really, in fact much better than I expected.

Bargain UWA prime for A900/A850 users???

No sample under F/4.0 :-) .

But Yes it looks good for the price (Brand new).

It is bad than Tamron do not reduce the price of the 14mm F2.8 SP.The street price is 1/3 the price of the new.

The problem with the Samyang, is that they have not been able to at least invest to put a confirm focus chips, that will cost them only 10$ max on the amount of lens they are building. And better a confirm focus getting the Aperture information from the ring (but not having to control it). Just this small move would have create a perfect Manual lens for the camera.

Regards,

What is a real bargain is the Pro-Optic version of the Samyang 8mm Fisheye for 290 US$ (https://www.adorama.com/PRO835SY.html) apparently is not optimized for FF and it will vignete unless you shove the lenshood

Hmm that link says the pro optic is a fisheye lens, very different animal. Fish eye lenses are probably about last on the list, if they even make it at all, very specialised lens if there ever was one.

I know Samyang seem to be around on other labels. Still this looked pretty good, and it's still very wide on APS too.
