chilean fjords glaciers

Unread post by gio67 »

this was the first time a big cruise liner had gone up this fjord to the glacier, after about 45 minutes huge chunks of ice were breaking off the glacier, i,m pretty sure it was the heat off the ship's engines that caused this,
although it was an awsome sight i kept thinking to myself "this is wrong", and i,m sure it will be the beginning of the end, i took the pic of the guy with the big lens as he was part of a team of photographers and video crew (they were in the little yellow boat)doing an advertising campaign for royal carribean, we had to change captains and be led up the fjord by a couple of tugs, on the second pic a big storm was blowing up behind the mountain, the storms just come and go by the minute, and the sun is in and out within minutes too,
seemingly the bluer the ice the older it is, so i was told

These pictures bring back memories of our travels to Chile last year - and remind me of the problems of the light in Patagonia, grey skies, the brief break in the clouds, and trying to get a view point that really express the grandeur of the scenery. I really like the light and colours in the 3rd picture, which I’m sure would make a good panoramic if you crop out the photographers! By the way, which glacier was this?

Great photos, it looks really majestuous!
The first one is my favorite, the contrast between the storm clouds and the ice is amazing.
