Are you sure of that quote and release date? As I understand it, the only close match to the Sony, according to Walt would be a Pro 300 DGX... A lot more than 99$, but still a very good deal compared to the SAL14TC. Especially in Switzerland...

When I called THK Photo a couple weeks ago ( US distribution for Kenko products) I asked about the MC4 and MC7 DGX versions. They said they would be for sale in the US late April. He said $99 for the MC4 and $149 for the MC7 versions are the projected costs. I just looked at BH for the nikon and cannon versions and they are the same exact prices he quoted me and for sale right now. The same at adorama. I didn't ask about the 300 pro series. I don't know the total difference between the MC4/7 and the pro300 series to be honest besides pin numbers. I was just looking for something that would work on my sigma 24-70 ssm, my 50 1.4 and 85 1.4 and maybe my old KM 27-75. If they do work AF on both my 200 and 400G then that would be a plus for me at times. Maybe the MC versions don't work and the pro's do I don't know on the 400G. I was under the assumption the MC7 DGX would fit any sony/minolta lens and the pro had a select fit for some lenses. If someone else has more information I'd buy whichever works the best for all my lenses ( 28-70, 50,85, KM) ? I just figured the MC7 and pro were about the same and the MC4 just had less pins but still would work on anything.

I will say that my sony 1.4x and 2x are very sharp and good worth every penny when I use them. I have used the 1.4x more often on the 400G than the 2x, but I use the 2x and the 1.4 on the 200G all the time and they are a perfect compliment. The results are excellent on both lenses. I don't mind not having Af at all on the 400 but it would be nice at times to have it. For a little disc to fit in my pocket and switch between the two wouldn't bother me at all if I needed it. I'd be interested in finding out if the MC7-1.4 would also work on the 400 with AF. That is why I'd be interested in looking at the kenko if it works. But I already have the sony versions.

Are you saying the kenko versions do work af on the 70-400? I was looking at the new dgx models.

I have the previous model, and yes AF runs with it on the 70-400G. As noted exif data and so on won't be correct. The AF is surprisingly good in what I've tried, obviously not quite as reliable or fast as just the 70-400G by itself. But accuracy seems as good. As far as light I've used it at sunset in cloudy partially shaded conditions and it got there.

I'm going to wait for user reports before considering the new Kenko. See if it's worth upgrading or not.

Because I'm plenty experienced with MF the AF is not a huge deal for me.
