I was dropping my daughter off for a day of lambing yesterday at Fontburn rare breeds farm in Northumberland and went on for a look around Fontburn reservoir.
I thought you might like to see these.
The reservoir is at the top of a hill and there is a water treatment plant below in the valley. The water flows down a massive 'drain hole' and is quite a site to see - I will go back in search of better light.
That's scary indeed. It's enormous and I don't even want to think of anyone getting pulled into that hole of suspicious ends... What would happen to a bird or a similar creature if it fell though? Once swallowed where how would it be sifted out I wonder.
It'd make a good scary-movie plot for those interested though...
Yeah, that hole makes me think of Morlocks, or there's a giant fiddler crab waiting to dart out and snatch someone...I wonder if any Eloi have gone missing recently....

Interesting shots Paul. In #3 I really like the hills in the distance with the bare trees, grazing sheep, and then the viaduct. I can't decide is it is a water treatment plant in the most beautiful setting, or a beautiful setting spoilt by a water treatment plant .

Paul - scary place. Many years ago, when I did real paid work, I did not take the chance to photograph in the conduit tunnel under Ladybower reservoir. Such places are only empty and accessible once in a decade. But I did get to walk through the huge pipes under Drqx Power Station, and to crawl into a volute. I stood in front of a butterfly valve with a million tonnes of water on the other side.
But, this was a time when I walked to the end of a flare boom on an oil rig unaccompanied without safety harness - and walked across the ceiling girders of Central Television studios under construction, 50ft above ground. And walked to the end of the boom of a tower crane, after first climbing the tower by ladder.
All out of the question now. Regulations, and my age and physical ability.
Still, tonight I told one of our folk club fans I was three years off being sixty, and got the very rewarding reply that she thought I was forty-something!
