A couple more IR shots

Unread post by Juanito200 »

I'm experimenting with IR again. I am trying to refine my technique, both in taking the image, and in the post processing. I have started using ISO 800 and less aperture to get shorter shutter times. I really want to improve the sharpness of my IR images, like the ones Dr Harout showed. So let me know what you think. John

Both lovely shots John. The foliage looks great in #1. In #1, would a longer shutter time have smoothed the water, or did you want the texture? In #1 I'm not sure about that grain / noise in the sky - is this down to ISO800? #2 is my favourite with the road leading off - great imagery, really well complemented by the sky. I don't think increasing the f stop has done any harm imho to either.

Thanks Doc and Birma. I would have liked the water to be smoother, but it is very windy today, and the trees would have been cotton balls.... I'm not a fan of the noise either, but..... #2 was ISO 200 at about 18 sec exposure. It took me quite a while to get 18 sec without a car (or really huge Texas sized pickup) coming by!!! I really want a calm day to get some better looking trees in my shots. I really want a converted camera, but alot of my discretionary income just went in to my wife's car this weekend. :(

For comparison, here is a shot of the same pond from yesterday. No clouds, and about 2hrs earlier in the day. Also the 18-70 kit lens as opposed to the 28-85macro from today.

I think I prefer the water in the second, and the clouds in the first :)
