Lightroom 3.0 now available :-)

Unread post by InTheSky »

Well, instead of the negative effect (I need to the old negative of my parent I need to process), the new lightroom is very good for me !

The surprise is the lens correction, was not expecting this on this version, very large range of correction there available. And also a start for a bank of lenses by brand and type.

I will try the 30 days trial, and probably after that I will make my credit card working on that :-).

First thing in addition so far, it is very fast compare to the 3.0 beta 2. Thank ! I will not have to change my pc.

I have never do correction on my picture for the lens effect ... but probably I will do start with some.

Instead of the lens correction, the rest of the application look pretty the same of the last beta version.

Regards,

Frank

I'll give it a try a day before my beta version expires, so I can test it for another month for free :)
So far is a mixed feeling (coming from picasa+dxo). I like the integration and file management (keywording is much better than picasa's) but don't like so much the raw processing... dxo feels so much powerful there (slower yes, but has much more flexibility). But one thing I love of lightroom is the especial effects where I can add some "artistic" vignetting. I'd really like that on dxo... I've asked for it but didn't get any response so far. Noise reduction is quite good also... but I don´t use it much; I prefer more detail with some grain than the plastic "Canon" look.

I have not played with it a lot, but there is a new feature to induce grain in the picture too on the new version.

On my side, I'm trying to stay on only one application, and for the moment, I think this is a win win for me. But I have never use other Raw processing very often, so probably I should check them too. What I need in most of the time is coming back on my computer from 200 to 400 shots and after 2 to 3 hours comes back with 40 to 50 good one I like and put them on the web. No time for too much PP, only some touch up like elimination dust or parasite in the picture. All the other adjustment are mostly batch: Noise, sharp location, lighting condition and cropping.

Inducing vignetting is part of more that 50% of my picture, I don't know why, but when a picture don't have vignetting I don't really like it (exception with landscape or formal stock picture ;-) ).

It shows the control you have now in the lightroom 3 :

I hope that there will be a way to see global database of older lenses available on the net. It can save time :-)
