Sony codec for Win7 64-bit?
Last week I bought a new pc that has Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on it. My A700 ARW raw files just get displayed as an icon instead of a thumbnail in the File Explorer so I think I need to install the Sony codec. I guess I must have done this a long time ago for my previous computer that had Vista Home Premium 32-bit on it. Anyway, I was doing some searching and found this:
http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-do ... 2&os_id=30
It says it is for Vista though. Anyone know where the Win7 64-bit version is located? Thanks!

That 's the one µ$oft says to use. It's the one I use in my 64 bit Win7 machine.

Thanks, Winston. Just to be clear, even though this page lists only Vista versions this is the proper codec to also use for Win7 64-bit?Winston wrote:That 's the one µ$oft says to use. It's the one I use my 64 bit Win7 machine.

From the UK esupport site, half way down the page it says the driver is compatible with 64 bit versions of Vista and Win7. I'm using it quite happily with Visa Ultimate x64.
You can also view ARW files directly with Picasa, no driver required.

Works fine on my Win7 64 bit for almost a year now

Okay, I will try it. You say that Microsoft says to use it. The pages I posted say it is for Vista. Where does Microsoft say it is for Win7 too?Winston wrote:That 's the one µ$oft says to use. It's the one I use my 64 bit Win7 machine.
Thanks to everyone. I will download it and run it.

Thanks. I ran it and it works. I need to check to see if it also works with my old A100, 7D, and D7i raw files. I guess I will need to get the codec for my Canon 30D and 300D raw files too. I wish Windows would just automatically get the proper codecs when it sees it is needed.

Do I need to pay for the codec pack? I see Microsoft is asking 9.99 for the service?

Hello,
my first post here
The drivers / codecs did not change between windows vista and windows 7, so you can safely use any driver that works under vista.
