Nex Cameras as reviewed by DPReview

The problem I see with the nx 10 isn't the conventional look but that it doesn't look small enough. I'd rather compare Nex with the GF1 or ep-1.

As for the appeal to p&s users, I don't get how the nx10 is supposed to appeal more than Nex.

As for Sony needing to use a business model that requires the sale of lenses, maybe they actually make money on the cameras. They have for to be making money on the accessories. I mean, come on.. $90 for a spare small battery?

Walt is banned (along with several others) for repeatdly asking for spliting the forum. It's probably a temp ban

No, he is banned. Click on his ID and then click on Galleries. If you get the page " Sorry, the user you are trying to view is not available." that means banned.

Both him and some others (like neww2dig) are banned for repeatedly starting threads about forum splitting.

if it's his first ban, it probably is temp ban.

Just to clear up all this, apparently I was banned for two days, though I never received a ban notice email.

The fun thing those two days corresponded with two days when my DSL ISP had our local DSL fried by lightning and I had no internet I bothered with.

I took the time to finish backing up and cloning my main mac desktop (several TB worth) before shutting it down and removing it from my computer desk along with monitor and etc. This has been my main machine for about 10 years, but too many new programs cannot run on it. So finally time to replace the twin G4 mac......

Then I put it's replacement on the desk, a Mac Pro 8-processor, latest model (though bought at a far cheaper price off ebay from a recession killed company). 6 TB of internal disk space plus another 6 TB external, almost all new as the disk format changed from my old machine. 16 GB core. Did not quite go whole hog, only 2.26 GHz processors. Mounted a new 24" Apple LED cinema display on my support arm (also a bargain off ebay). And there is a new Apple wireless keyboard and magic mouse. Except for firewire 800 external disks containing the clones and data backups from the old mac nothing from the old used.

Then starting from a clone of my old desktop, combined with a clone from my MacBook Pro and updating from OSX 10.4 to 10.6 I began the foray into building everything up. It was nearly a week before I got it far enough to trust downloading mail and such to it so I mostly ignored the internet.

With a couple hundred apps involved in both mac and windows (via parallels) it's a slow step by step process. Especially since Apple does not understand that a single user can have main accounts on more than one machine they need to combine into a single new user setup. I've been very mean and tricky with OSX in the process (without resorting to unix) All my main use apps have been gotten running now and only the less used stuff to clear up yet.

So, was I banned by DPR? I literally did not notice And the current style I'm approaching DPR forums has nothing to do with it. Nothing has changed.

As far as sick, well this past week and a half I've had extreme pain from a damaged tendon in my right arm. Just finally brought back to normal these last few days with prescription meds and back to where I can do some photography and begin to push the beast on my computer desk a bit. I'm really enjoying my new toy. It's quite a machine. Even sifting things around inside is fantastically improved. Even the new cinema display is better than my old cinema display. I was not sure there with it's reflective glass display.

So anyone saying I hold off FF because I don't have the computing power, you are wrong! I hold off FF because I don't need or care for it. And what I'm waiting to see come on NEX is not FF either.

I understand that you do mostly wildlife and macro photography: APS "works" better for you because the "reach" the format allow you to get.

True for a lot of folks. If I have to I can use FF, but it's not really my choice for what I shoot.

I actually do quite a wide variety of photography. Probably best characterized as outdoors and not people.

As it stands right now Sony offers no real difference in core features with their FF. Basically the a900 is an a700 with a FF sensor and some removals. And I'm not sure that will change when it's the a7xx and a9xx.

a little bit simplistic... but both share the "core features" -the same technology. I guess the A550 generation is an 'intermediary" step forward and NEX and the cameras they'll announce this fall will mark the road for the next 2 years.
