Nex 16mm + polarizer + crop

Didn't get the finder perfectly lined up for top half composition, need to remember to turn on Sunny Day brigthtness (though most other shots from the same set are perfectly composed, this needed a small rotation as well as the bottom half cropping off).

It's really good using a polarizer with the live view, the effect is much easier to judge than through an optical finder.

Strong colours, but looking very natural! Btw, I read some fuzz that it's tricky to fit polarizers to the 18-55mm and 16mm Sony lenses because Sony wants to sell their own filters. Is this true or a hoax?

That rumour is nonsense! I guess a non-wideangle polarizer or filter would always be a problem. Mine is a vintage 49mm Minolta circ pol I have had for 20+ years. Any normal filter will fit the NEX lenses.

A glorious sunny day David, glad to see you're having some good weather . Interesting point about the polarizer, and that you could use live view evene on such a bright day.

Frankly, I still cannot imagine how and what could you see under sunny condition. Do you have to cover the LCD with your palm?

You can see well enough for most shots. I think in this case my own head/body cast a shadow on the screen, it was not the best viewing. But for most other shots the same day composition was absolutely clear on the screen.

Here is another example from the same location. You can probably tell from the sun direction that the screen was well shaded, but it was also angled for waist-level viewing. Exact composition was vital here - the grass at the front had to be included, the flagpole had to be in, and the urn-plinth had to be placed exactly against the building (which meant keeping the camera to within an inch or two of the exact position), and the verticals had to be vertical. Like using a view camera, but much faster - a very precise, adjusted viewpoint and composition planned as soon as I saw the urn and cactus garden.

The NEX permits this easily enough in full sun, without using the Sunny Day setting.

Impressive, David!

Sunny, bright moments are a challenging for any camera and lens set up. I like the vertical lines the 16mm delivers with NEX, while the colours are just right.

A very nice monumental structure with a lovely garden by the way. : )
