I did a little bit of searching around the internet and found they probably are berries from the Symphoricarpos genus, commonly known as snowberries or waxberries.

About the white berries, I think I found a species that resemble the ones in the photos. Not too sure though! : )

Always welcome are these photos of historical and contemporary buildings and nature blending into one under the white of the snow.

Much as I admiire the postcard beauty of the places, I think you really caught the mood of the fluffy Robin and the striking , speckled starling against the blinding whiteness around. Cute birds... : )

And the agony of the halted traffic flow which I empathize all the way...

David- I must say I haven't seen white berries ever myself.. Beautiful shots.
Mark- that was a helicopter that passed overhead during the 30sec exposure. I almost missed it because I forgot to turn off long exposure NR, and I had the 2 sec timer set, so I was hoping the camera would reset in time to have it in the shot. I think they kinda look like a string of Christmas lights...
The cool clouds from last night made for a beautiful sunrise this morning. 7° C, wind 13mph from the south, 66% humidity. John

The clouds must be a gorgeous sight in real life conditions, hovering majestically above, with such enigmatic colour shifts.

Thanks everybody for the kind comments about yesterday's pictures.

I really like that sunrise sky John - just amazing colours and great detail with the trees along the bottom of the picture. Very tasteful Christmas lights as well .

Our nearest Met. Office station (about 6 miles away) recorded the lowest temperature in England last night, -18 degrees centigrade brrrrrr. Here is what the same office reported at 1400.
Sunny, Temp -9°C 16°F, Wind 0km/h, Humidity 95%, Pressure 995mb falling, Visibility Poor.

This has made for some very pretty views and light conditions with yesterday's snow showing no signs of leaving in the sub-zero conditions. I have posted some pictures in other threads. Here are a few more.

A very good thought DA, about the Robin and his nickname in our house. He (or perhaps her?) was certainly bob, bob, bobbing along today. Here he is striking a pose. (A700 + Beercan)

I hope you'll excuse some more bird photographs. Word seems to have got around the local bird life and it has been very busy on the feeders and tables today. A couple of unusual visitors that I missed were lesser spotted woodpeckers and redwings (maybe fieldfares?). There was also a Coal Tit that I haven't see for a few weeks. Here are the ones I did manage to grab a shot of while sitting on the sofa with a nice hot coffee . All with A700 + Beercan.

These little chaps were back - one of my favourites.

Thanks for doing some research Mark & Yildiz, I think you nailed it Mark. as these grow quite high and have no purple stems like Asters. Must say those berries are much like them Yildiz.

John another sensational sky. Wow.

Looks like the trails "gone cold" Birma, very good capture. More wonderful bird photos, that little Robin is a real gem. Thanks for braving the cold and sharing Birma.

Sadly, that's not to be. I learned Friday afternoon that he has already passed on. Saturday, my wife delivered his lifeless body via c-section.

He was perfect, looking very much like his sisters. We held him, hugged him and cried. I'm still crying. We're arranging his burial.

If I am absent from the forum for a while, please understand. If I am on the forum in the coming days, it's because I find it a release to the pain I suffer.

I too am in mourning for my grandmother past away last friday. I found that this forum is a nice place to set your mind on other things for a few minutes.

I find this so hard to believe... I am so deeply saddened and in shock. I was so looking forward to the happiy news and I'm lost for words completely to console and comfort you and your family. ( I don't think that there are any...)

God bless his soul and we're thankful for the joy he brought to us in the shortest time known for a life while he was in his mother's womb.

I wish, with all my heart and sincerity, that God will fill our hearts with patience and his Greatness to embrace his Will when such great losses tear us apart inside....
