Hi,

Been to our district's Saturday Market today just to have a look around and to see if there was anything that might be of interest. It's been some time since I last was there.

Things might look a bit hectic but it works for those that love to shop here for fresh goods at more reasonable prices. : ) Sometimes one finds really nice bits at inredibly low prices. Not that I shopped there for a while but I will try to frequent it more to see if there are any 'gems' out there.

In the Saturday Market, one can see some interesting salespersons like the one in the checkered shirt who just kept posing in some ridiculous way which I noticed only after I took the photo. : ) But most are just humble and good people.

Hi Yildiz - always fun to join in your walks around Istanbul . What amazing colours on the market stalls, I can see why you were drawn to them - they would make good test scenes for camera and lens reviewers . The produce looks great as well. I can imagine that shopping is even more fun with a camera. Thanks for sharing these pictures.

I am curious about the dolls in some of your photos, as some of them look like Scandinavian gnomes. Are these also part of the mythology of Turkey, or are they there to appeal to tourists?

It's pretty colourful isn't it? One should take several cameras and several lenses there on a not-so-windy day and do some tests on colour range, definition, resolution, sharpness, dynamic range, autofocus and such. : )

The city, being Istanbul, has many faces as you know, I'm sure. Faces that reflect in daily life...

Actually, there's no specially-added material in these shots to attract tourists; they are pretty much what Turkish people see, use and buy for their homes, children and personal needs or entertainment.

I see what you mean though. The dolls and gnomes in front of the woven basket shop are for sale on usual basis, nothing special. We all grew up with the fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm and the gnomes are actually the dwarf characters in their book "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs". Three of the characters are displayed there for the kids... And the straw-stuffed-dolls in the front are yet again something we are used to seeing for years. I had such dolls since when I was 4-5 years old. Some are locked in my wardrobe in my chilhood room now, so they would not collect dust and dirt.

This district is not a tourist-aiming one although I did hear some foreigners speaking in French in the market, which probably were curious as I was, as to what was new in the market. We have quite a foreigners' population in Istanbul, that actually reside here too. Very usual for Istanbul...

Universal fairy characters were always part of our lives one way or an other, no matter where they originated from.

Incredible chosen spot to view the city, Birma. : ) The colours are soft to the eye and the landscape has a nice curve...

Do I see a 'solitary' sweet flower with a snow drop of a hat and pink boots in the second? Definitely a gorgeous English Rose!

It was a dreary day here today. Lot's of rain, cloudy and a pretty cold wind. Even though the weather wasn't that accommodating, the GF and I went for a little hike around the neighborhood anyway. In the end, we walked for more than 3 hours and had a great time.

Here are some pictures of the weather:







All images were shot with my new A580 and favorite lens my Sigma 30mm.

Such a peacefully extending land piece only spliced with canals. The mist ahead gives the impression that there's no end to this extension.

There seems to be a flock of birds in the second; the land must be frequented by certain types of small and big birds.

Very atmospheric images Mark. As Yildiz has said the flock of birds is a nice touch of interest in such a still scene. Oh, and congratulations on the new A580 . A very interesting camera with a host of features. You should tell us your experiences getting to grips with it in comparison to your previous camera(s).

Wow Yildiz, that's a great presentation in that market, it's a huge selection that I can see and the colours are striking, and it looks like much of it was locally made too. (I liked the vegie market shot, with the spontaneous entertainer ha ha).
Nice scenes Birma, I think the little one has grown a couple of inches since last pic I saw, or am I imagining things.
I still like the canals? mvanrheenen, but I still don't know what they are for.
