The U.S. Open

Unread post by jbtaylor »

A good friend of mine attempted to qualify for the national championship of American golf a few days ago. It is an arduous task for any golfer much less the amateur. Ten spots were available out of a field of some 120 golfers each playing 36 holes (walking). I was fortunate enough to get some shots of the afternoon round. He was tied for first after the morning round. We were all excited for him but that was not enough. Golf is a cruel game as some of these shots will demonstrate. However, the support of family members and friends can take some of the sting away.
Shot with the a900, Minolta 300mm 2.8 G and the Sony 70-200mm 2.8 G, I present a tribute to Gary.

Great story telling through pictures JB - I'm not a golf fan, but I can appreciate the emotion involved - some really lovely shots - particularly like the ball coming out of a bunker.

Thanks Birma. This is one of the few times where the reach of the camera brought me into the moment. Maybe that is what happens if you shoot enough.

Jeff... an amazing job of telling a tough story. The camera truly caught many of the emotioanl ups and downs of the day. And those pensive looks of the fans ... magnificent.

I'm convinced that Lady Luck is either with you or against you in Golf, great skill helps of course but if luck is not running in your favour...forget it.

Hi JBTaylor,

Magnificent editorial shots; great seeing the apprehension on the players' faces and in their body language while tiny gestures of support and the force exerted on the top soil by the golf clubs are caught in the air.

Thanks for sharing,
