Reculver is about 25 miles away from me (I'm up near Sittingbourne) but I've been meaning to visit for months, ever since I bought the a55 - I did a mini tour of NE Kent on Saturday (Reculver round to Dover) - most of the shots were non-UWA with the exception of Reculver - I agree, as a location its just begging for epic wide angles. I was a bit annoyed the sun went in whilst I was there but upon reflection, the clouds add a bit of drama I think .

Love the shot of the Mote by the way - I shall be looking that one up and putting it on my to do list

So, changed my UWA to the Tokina 11-16 and gave it a test run this week. A quirky lens but not without its charms and sharp if you stop it down a little. Overall I like it, although I did notice the following...

It has a very slight tendency to flare if you catch a little bit of sun ...


If you don't get your shot perfectly level with the horizon you can see a tiny bit of distortion in straight lines / buildings etc ...


and its not particularly flattering as portrait lens go

Great exposure control Pako, I think I'd prefer a portrait pan at slightly less wide angle of view myself but it's cool just the same, there are potplants in the street, on the road? or have I not got my perspective right.

They'd closed Broadway between forty somethings and 34th st I guess, to car traffic, so now is all pedestrian and you have tables, chairs, potplants, etc... Drivers complaint traffic will be a mess, but traffic on Times Square was always a mess. So now at least pedestrian can enjoy better the area.

ps. I didn't know that about the street closure Pako, I never suspected that anyone would be game to close roads to traffic in NY.

Ah! the idea is less cars in the city and more pedestrians and bicycles. Public transportation works quite well, no need for everybody to bring their cars into the city, and this is one (mayor) reason I like living here, I don't "need" a car.
NYC is copying this from Paris, where they started allowing wider lanes exclusively for Buses, taxi cabs and bicycles, and narrow lanes for cars -but the metro in Paris close by 1 AM, while in NYC it runs 24/7.

Greg, It was a wax display figure at a Museum in the Rhonda Valley, Wales (a former coal mining pit). In the case of this figure though, It was so deformed I wonder whether someone left it a bit too close to a radiator and it started melting
