Tanfield Railway

Hi all, we went for a visit to Tanfield Railway yesteday afternoon and had a ride on the steam train - this is the worlds oldest operating railway, there is a large number of engines in vaious states of renovation, a great place for a walk around.

Absolutely beautiful Paul, love those old steam engines. When I was a kid, some of the engineeers would let us ride in the cab while they switched cars. I remember how hot it was in the cab.

The HDR/local contrast enchancement works well on this subject Paul, especially in the shed, suits it (in contrast to the abbey). It enhances the sort of engineered feel.

Hmm, just have to say that I love them all, Paul.

Indeed, this time around the HDR works greatly for these machines.
I like how you went low for the last shot that frames the roof and skylight as a background which I suppose is because the machine was right behind the black one and provided a tight place to compose.

#2 is my favourite for the nicely balanced colors and the wonderful "metalic" look of the steam boiler. I am all in for decent effects, for me the art lies in balancing them to enhance the visual impression but remaining mainly invisible - like spices in the food.
