My wife has just returned to teaching and so we have used the Adobe "teacher" offer to get a copy of Lightroom. I am a convert - the just the right set of controls for the PPing I want to do. The workflow is obviously focused purely on the photographer - Elements has a lot of clutter that I never used and was a distraction. I think my ageing (7 years?) PC isn't really up to the job, but I'll get by until I upgrade.
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Switching from IDC to Lightroom has done more for my photography than my initial switch from shooting JPG to shooting RAW. It's changed not only how I process, but how I shoot, dispose of, and keep images. It is very powerful, enabling software.

Everyone should be aware that STUDENTS can get the educational discounts from Adobe (and others) as well. I have 3 students, and even though Adobe limits me to 1 Adobe title per student per year, I can use all 3 to get 3 titles.

I'm a little late to the conversation but I prefer DXO Optics Pro to process my a55 / a77 shots - currently trialling version 7, release a few weeks ago but very pleased with the older v6.6 too - I was forced to use lightroom for a month or so when I got my a77 and whilst I like it as an organiser or quick 'look see' tool, I prefer DXOs noise reduction and exposure adjustment tools (even on unsupported lenses) - and if your camera / lens is one of the supported combos, It can give stunning results in seconds.
