I'm interested in something to replace my Bigma which continues to worry me every time I use it. Will I strip the gears or not...? So a new Bigma with A700-proof focus system, whether onboard HSM or just some upgrades, is an attractive prospect. Unless the 70-400 Sony turns up first, of course...

Don has already posted at least one photo showing his serious foot condition - it must be great to live somewhere with sunshine and the freedom to go barefoot!

If you have serious cases of fish fungus or white spot, Don's the man. He may also be pretty good with grooming advice for cats - and help with choosing pet-friendly vacuum cleaners, allergy tablets, the best types of cat litter, and which brand of aftershave is preferred by 8 out of 10 cheerleaders.

Am I the only one who finds that sort of stuff just basically dishonest? I'd never make money from photography with that attitude I know, but pretending someone isn't spotty is just wrong.

A portrait should be honest, even with the funny rash down below.

Those old master portrait from way back you see hanging in the art galleries they were almost always "idealised".

Otherwise the painter wouldn't have been paid ... or worse

Yes you're right of course but there's a real talent in putting the lipstick on a hippo in such a way as to make it look Palin without much further processing. When you start to semi-automate the process it just takes the effort out and a lot of the skill too.

No, in fact particularly with women you want to show them a photograph of what they see in there own mind when they think of themselves. People and again mostly women don't think of themselves with a wart on their noses. Giving them a picture that shows their flaws or even enhances their flaws is actually a little cruel the way I think of it.

I was tempted to post a close up of some rusty steel and see if you could diagnose my condition, but thought better of it.
