Nice film scanner?

It's in swedish, sorry couldn't find the product in english on some other site.
So what do you think? 5Mpix would be enough for my old crappy negatives, and if the interpolation is decent that would work too.

1/1.8” sensor, 5 Megapixel CMOS (1800 dpi, 3600 dpi interpolated)
30 bits colour space
Lens: F2,0 4 lens design, fixed focus

Says it only takes a second to scan the image which is a big pro' for me, I also like the small size.

I have an old Minolta Dual Scan borrowed from work and it is big and noisy and takes forever to scan an image...

So... any input appreciated. Oh! The price is about $118 with todays exchange rate.

It all depends on the sharpness, and on dust and scratch removal. Also, on the quality of the neg-pos conversion. I would suggest that buying a slide copier attachment for a similar price, for your DSLR, would be even faster and better unless there is top quality dust and scratch removal present in this device.

Does anyone know of any software that could do the negative-positive conversion? I have ‘scanned’ slides with my A100 (and Tamron 90mm Di at 1:1 magnification) with good results, but cannot do the same with negatives unless such sort of software (or perhaps an alternative method) exists.

Try http://www.irfanview.com/ - it's free.
Under menu item "image" you have a "negative" option.

Hope this is what you want.

Thanks a lot Zeb! I’ll try your suggestion. If it works, I guess a DSLR+Macro lens combo can be one of the best (and most convenient) alternatives to scanning 35mm film (slides and negatives). (Of course, a macro lens, a copystand and a lightbox are quite more expensive than the scanner you are considering. The slide copier attachment suggested by David is a cheap alternative to those three accessories.) Thanks again.

I don’t know the ultimate quality that could be obtained by this method of ‘scanning’ negatives (I have only done a quick test), but, as you can see, it works. (I don’t have negatives I need to scan, but it is good to know I won’t need a scanner to digitalize negatives in case someone asks me to get a quick print from a negative). Thanks again.

Nothing wrong with the slide copier attachment idea, works pretty well. Quality can vary, though for smaller prints it will be ok. Has to be said, pain as it is..for the best quality nothing will touch a dedicated film scanner.

If you already have a SCCI card on your computer, get the old (Circa 1999?) Minolta Quickscann 35 on ebay for almost nothing, and you will have better quality, but a slow interfase.

Well I probably have a SCSI-card somewhere, but the scanner is so large and as you say - probably damn slow (pardon my french)

yep SCSI (I'm dyslexic parfois)
The Scanner isn't that big. I haven't install the driver on Vista, but I still have a PC runing XP.
What I find slow is the whole workflow. The scanner itself isn't that slow, remember the SCSI interfase is faster than USB or Firewire (just less popular)
