What amzing details.

That "some kind of bug I don't know" one is especially nicely shot ,Dennis. I love the details showing around the eyes and the body parts. I also don't know the type of flying object it is... I will take Birma's and Greg's word for it and search for it on the internet. : ))

As it has been so wet here recently I thought that our insects etc. would have been having a good time. Tilly and I went for a walk during a "sunny spell" in one of the woods which has a good selection of butterflies and also dragon/damselflies. Here are a couple of pictures.

I couldn't quite catch these two when they made the next connection up. The male is blue and the female is green.

These seem quite big when they are whirring around your ears, although only 3 inches or so long. At least they are considerably smaller than their ancestors from the Carboniferous period!

Both with the A700 and Beercan. I very much enjoyed using this combination, but at the end of the walk when I took the camera off from around my neck, I was reminded of the weight difference with the Nex etc.

The Boatmen are great as the whizz around the under surface of the pool - very fast movers .

Nice work Birma, I’ve seen the different coloured ones here around swampy areas in the past too, but they might have been red, green and blue dragonflies, I’m not sure on that, I think most of them had the wings straight out so they must have been dragonflies. But whichever they were, dragonflies or damselflies you have to stalk them very carefully if I remember, one false move and they’re off so you’ve done very well in getting that collection of images of the various types.
Nice one too Henry, of yet another variation.

Summertime insects indeed.... When I see these long narrow bodies hovering and buzzing about, I know that summer is running its natural course.

From yesterday's walk in the woods. First a Buff-tailed Bumble Bee feeding on that last of the Rose Bay Willow Herb flowers.

Secondly, a Ruddy Darter (I think ?!). There were a lot of these about, and they were quite happy to let you get quite close and even landed on Tilly and I a couple of times.

Both with Nex 5 and Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro on LA-EA2, using AF . Quite pleased that the AF was an assistance when chasing pictures that have to be grabbed relatively quickly. Dragonflies in flight are still not possible though, for this operator anyway .
