Two days ago I decided to take shots of my friend who got new haircut, and I hoped to get tomboy style. Please feel free to comment and criticize

The first one feels like it is out of focus than soft and if that is the desired effect then you have achieved it.
I like the second one and the composition is Audrey Hepburnesque in Roman Holiday. That was my first thought.

That first is really captivating! The expression you captured in the second is a little distracting, but otherwise it is a good shot, too.

Hi Anne - I really like the first shot. The very shallow dof with just her left eye in focus is very striking, and she also has a really interesting expression.

i lie the shots although the soft focus is not to every ones taste but they would not look out of place hanging in costa coffee shops (i meant that as a complimate) they are chick!

First one for me, and If I would be allow to do post processing I will removed the nose piercing, because it put to much emphasis on the front focus of the picture and distract us from those beautiful lips ... . Probably a little bit more vignetting ...

Hi Anne,

The tomboy look suits your friend...

I might have liked the eyes to be more in focus in the first shot but I think this the defocused 'unattentive' manner in the focus is what you might have been looking for.

The second shot reminds me of the brooding look of James Dean, who used to portray rebel characters in his movies. The drooping cigarette and the frown with the smoke in transit across her forhead is why I likened the mood to his shots. Maybe even a little Clark Gable... : )
