Two wrongs make it right

I have been living in Bay area, California for 28 years and did not know this part of San Francisco existed.
We were driving in the city (as it is referred to by locals), and made two wrong turns and discovered a vista
point that offered the view of Golden Gate Bridge from SW to NE. Golden Gate Bridge spans North-South with
Pacific being on West. Most of the shots of mine and in general would be of the bridge looking at it from east
to west or looking South, South East from a vista point high up on the northern side.

Great view point Sury. It is great to find new spots that you can return to for pictures.

This view certainly shows of the size and scale of the ridge and I like the view of the river (?) beyond.

Thank you. That would be Sacramento River though the sea water has gone in by about 5 or 6 miles.
If you draw an horizontal line from the south point of the bridge, a V shaped Bay is formed which is
called San Francisco Bay. The left tip of the bay is City of San Francisco, the right tip is City of
Oakland and Berkeley (my B&W post shows view of the bridge from Berkeley) and the narrow point
is where city of San Jose (capital of Silicon Valley and my city of residence is located).

Why is it called Golden when it is red?

The Golden Gate Bridge has always been painted orange vermilion, deemed "International Orange." It was painted that colour to blend in better with it's natural surroundings. It also makes it stand out for ships as well as protect the steel from rusting.

The confusion comes from the name, the term Golden Gate refers to the Golden Gate Strait which is the entrance to the San Francisco Bay from the Pacific Ocean.

It is generally accepted that the strait was named "Chrysopylae" or Golden Gate by Army Captain John C. Fremont, circa 1846. It is said it reminded him of a harbor in Istanbul named Chrysoceras or Golden Horn.

That is one great viewpoint sury. I really, really like the composition where the landmass, bridge and air/sea are perfectly divided across the frame.

Thanks for the info Sury. I've just had a Google investigation of the geography. Amazing! I just thought it was an estuary with a bridge over it.

John Freemont, an early American explorer, named it in 1846: "On 1 July 1846, before the discovery of gold in California, the entrance acquired a new name. In his memoirs, John C. Frémont wrote, "To this Gate I gave the name of "Chrysopylae", or "Golden Gate"; for the same reasons that the harbor of Byzantium was called Chrysoceras, or Golden Horn." (Wikipedia)

The "Gate", is in reality a strait between the Pacific and the bay.
