Re: Landscape 2013
Wildieswife, I loved that series. Very pretty!
Andy, you know I always dig your landscapes.
Peter, those rocks in the surf are amazing! I would never leave that place!
Here are a few from Ruby Beach, Washington:
The first is a sweep-panorama while the other two are traditional stills.

Re: Landscape 2013
Did you shoot those on the same day Kevin?
The first image shows almost clear blue skies, while the second and third are all gray. Did the weather change that quick?
As I mentioned in the panorama thread, I really like yhat stitch!

Re: Landscape 2013
Thank you! The second and third were on the same day, at extreme low tide before and after sunset. The third was on another day with John and Ian. I inadvertently pulled an epic bait-and-switch on them.

Another long exposure seascape. This time early morning in Cape of Good Hope area of Table Mountain National Park.

Nice long exposure Peter. It seems foggy on the water. Is this due to the long exposure?

These black-and-white landscapes are enchanting, fellas. Keep 'em coming!
Yes, Doc. Though having seen it at two extremes now, I feel like I can go look for other beautiful places around here.
Here's a shot my wife took while we were there at low tide:

I love the road to nowhere Mark.
Peter, I am getting more and more enamored by the long exposures that you have been posting.
I think it is time to start experimenting the same. Thank you for the inspiration.
Kevin, as Doc said, you are in love with that place. The evidence is in front of us in those images.
I like the low tide shot by your wife and look forward to the results from your scouting other locales.
With best regards,
Sury

Re: Landscape 2013
It wasn't really fog - more like spray from the waves. The long exposure seems to have emphsized it. The sky was a bit greyish but had some blue in it. I decided not to pull down the blue (in B&W), prefering the hazy look.mvanrheenen wrote:Nice long exposure Peter. It seems foggy on the water. Is this due to the long exposure?

Here I was getting exposures of up to 15 sec at ISO 50. (This is where the A77's EVF & live histogram comes into its own by the way. You can see what the camera will do; and its natural tendency seems to be to underexpose, so I generally end up dialing in + 1.5 stops.)
Why B&W? Well the thing that originally attracted me to this particular composition was the branch in the foreground. When I examined the images on the computer the branch wasn't as prominent as I recalled. When I lightened it, because it was pretty hot to start with, the colours rapidly blew out and it started to look unreal. The monchrome approach solves that problem.

Bay Trail in Mountain View California. This park has been the source of my recent Birds in Flight shots.

Re: Landscape 2013
A great selection of different styles of landscape shots chaps!
Here are a couple from today.
2013 - Bringsty - Hill Top by Birm, on Flickr
2013 Bringsty - Silver Birch by Birm, on Flickr
Both with A99. First with SAL 28-75 and second with KM 17-35 3.5-4.5. I'm hoping that these two lenses will make up my regular landscape kit. The Dynamic Range from the A99 seems very good. There was probably 1.5 to 2 stops of DR left in these two shots despite the bright sky and shady trees. It doesn't feel like I'm going to need ND grads very often.

Re: Landscape 2013
Andy,
You may "want" to use those ND filters, if aa los banos post is any indication.
Nice effect aa los banos. I always wanted to try the ND effect but was never prepared
to take such shots (tripod, filters etc) on my trips to beaches.
With best regards,
Sury
