Hi everyone,

Cloudy here in Istanbul. Tomorrow we'll have rain and some thunder if all the predictions and weathermaps are correct.

The shot is of some sort of structure which probably is used to drill for petroleum or maybe naturalgas, I really can't say. This is the second piece, since another one slowly made its way through the Bosphorus waters a few days ago. Maybe a third one is on the way somewhere heading towards us....It really moves slowly, very slowly.

The weather does look a bit gloomy there at the moment Yildiz, maybe a storm is brewing after all, that rig had better get where it’s going soon, it doesn’t look like something that would be wonderful in bad sea conditions.

I got used to this tree being there diagonally across the intersection, it had been there a long time and it was sad to see it go. (they are doing new gutters around the neighbourhood and the tree was in the way, I think)
Should we lament the loss of a tree, there’s plenty more trees…right?

Hi Greg,

I agree, the rig should soon be havened in a safe location ... They definitely are heading to the Black Sea which is a more harsh-weather-prone sea than the other seas that surround Turkey. Can get very unstable...

I am very sad to see that tree go, Greg, seeing how neatly you documented it being sawn down to be replaced by a mere void that also made the house behind it look suddenly 'abandoned' by a long-time friend. The tree certainly had a special shape and the neighbourhood was better-looking with it there. It's always saddenning to see trees go. They don't grow easily, especially in the world as we know it now.

Hi Henry,

It's great to see you back from an other journey or still on one, I assume. : ) You're our 'Henry, the around the world guy'! I can always depend on you to come up with a new gallery of new images from very interesting places.

That's one interestingly neat rice field. Love the lush greenof the newly-planted rice plants. I'm more used to seeing photos of rice fields cascading on mountainous zones which create a sort of alien-land look but this one is very different; it's as if it's one's own backyard turned to rice field with all the covered plantations in the background especially.

(I was away for a while and I was distracted by the most recent events in Istanbul ; there were demonstrations/protests against the government that treated badly to the civilians. You might have heard it on the news sometime/somewhere, maybe. The protests against the government are continuing in a consistent yet on a more in-house manner at the moment using domestic means. Creative as they are, they indeed make a difference using the domestic tools. )

Amazing reflection Henry - it took me some time to work out what was going on in that rice field

I'm always sad to see a tree come down Greg, especially such a big one. They seem to have done a good job of removing it - you wouldn't believe there had been one there. We normally get left with stumps when they remove them around here. I hope the big bits of timber went to something useful and weren't chipped like the branches.

Thanks Yildiz and Birma, actually I think it’s absolutely scandalous that they got rid of a landmark tree like that, home to lots of birds too, I’m wondering what’s going to happen to the Mahogany across the road when they come down to the corner with the new gutter there as well.
And to answer your question Birma, I was amazed at how large the woodchipper could take solid timber and turn it into a cloud of chips, they just chain sawed the large log lengthways down the middle first when they did that one. (Later they came with another machine and ground the remains of the stump including some of the roots into woodchips too, it must have had a tungsten toothed blade, at a guess)

Ps I thought the upside down shade in the rice field was startling in its clarity as well.

Tsawwassen 23ºc. Scattered Cloud, heading up to 26ºc.

That is an interesting tow Yildiz, working platform of some kind. They are not taking any chances having two assist tugs, will probably need them to position it at destination?
Very interesting shot.

More interesting shots. Too bad the tree was not controled during growth, yes it is sad to see them go. Could have been a potential danger to those power lines during high winds?
BC. Hydro took one of mine down a few year back for that reason. I don’t miss the constant clean up of the pine needles in the driveway.
