Being an impatient American I managed to get my hands on one with the help of a good friend in Japan. Not sure what to think so far, click on through for some samples as well as raw files to download. If you have any questions in particular about it feel free to ask.

Hi Darin. Interesting tests. On one hand perhaps comparison against primes is a bit tough, but nevertheless the 24-70 does look a bit disappointing, especially at f8.
Nex 5, Nex 6 (IR), A7M2, A99 and a bunch of lenses.

Good tests which more or less back up your findings. I have to say, I'm not fully convinced yet that E mount lenses even with the Zeiss label are performing at full potential yet. They need to perform a lot better to get the best out of a full frame sensor.
With Sigma you chance your luck if you get a good or bad copy generally they are good but the odd naff one finds its way to the shops, but I guess it also applies to most other lens makes.
Prime versus zoom is a tough call, and I remember one test where a zoom out performed a prime, I think it was a Sony 16-50 A mount.

I think particularly the Samyang 35mm 1.4 is tough to compete against. As an owner of the Nikon 24-70mm 2.8 I know it is better than the old 28mm 2.8 prime, which is a 30 year old design. Going to do some hiking and testing today to see what's happening at f/8, I've never seen anything like it before.
