This guy worked at the hotel I was staying at and I sometimes talked to him. One evening I saw him off-duty sitting on the porch of his living quarters on the lush, beautiful grounds of the hotel playing this instrument. I went over and talked to him and then took his photo:

I’m curious about the petrol, why on earth would anyone have petrol for sale in bottles? And where did they get it from to put it in the bottles? couldn't the ones who might want petrol just get it from there as well? it's all a little strange.

People don't get the bottle. It is just stored in the bottle and then when they pay it is poured into the tank of their motorbike. There are lots of these places along the roads. Here is another one taken with my E-M5. I sort of hate to contaminate this thread with a photo from a non-tiny sensor camera.

Henry I couldn’t stand it anymore so I did some snooping http://asiawheeling.com/?p=1100 and found out the petrol sellers go to a regular gas station and fill up a jerry can and then later measure it out in a 1 litre bottle into whatever sized container they have and put it in the rack for sale which apparently they don’t have any trouble selling despite the markup, the ones who buy it say it suits them to just get enough for what they need to conduct whatever business they are doing without having to fill the tank and tying up cash unnecessarily, I guess if you did have a full tank of gas then there might be someone who would borrow some or all of it while you were having dinner or sleeping too.
The mystery still remains as to what happened to that vodka? It’s a Muslim country isn’t it?

I doubt the alcohol is prohibited in Indonesia. Indonesia, though the country with the largest Muslim population
is governed by civil code instead of Islamic code. Bali, is non-muslim (Hindu?) dominated to boot and is a tourist destination. So it is easy to guess what ever happened to that vodka.

Yes I was eventually forced to accept that conclusion too.

The alternative of tipping it out so one could have an empty container for petrol was briefly considered, but I think I’d be outnumbered 2:1 on that idea.
