Nice picture Toni. The six points you list in you blog are excellent and I can see in them where I can do better. Thanks.

You had some interesting thoughts on the photographer/camera relationship. I'm not so sure it's that different from the painter/paintbrush relationship. Perhaps the difference is more the speed at which the result can be had. In other words, anyone and everyone can pick up a camera, point and shoot. Instant creation. Anyone and everyone can paint or draw a picture. It's not as fast, and it's not convenient many times, so only those that are dedicated to being good "artists" will pursue that direction. On the other hand many people pursue photography, just to fill their scrapbooks and hard drives with "snapshots" of life, more as a preservation of memories than as art and in the process they overwhelm the internet with their "art." I'm just thinking out loud here and it was probably worded poorly, but I will still post it because it's convenient and instantaneous, allowing the ease at which I can throw syllables at the internet to be rivaled only by the speed at which I can fill the SD card on my camera with mediocre shots. :)

An interesting last picture of the series Toni. The door is closed on the past (year)
and/or opening to a new challenge in the future (year). A perfectly "timed" capture.

Hi Jeff, thanks for the interesting comment and sorry for the late reply. The age old argument against the photography being an art is centered to argument that camera makes the picture and user doesn't have to have any skills. On a snapshot level it's of course true, but when things are taken to higher levels the nature of the camera changes a bit. However, I think and believe that the use of this device separates photography from other art forms, even if it's often compared to painting. Yes, there are pictures but the process of making them makes the difference. But, I understand your point and observation too. Both of them takes work and effort if one wants to succeed as something. Certainly do and it would be not useful to separate them in this regard.

Season of Photographic Eye - Picture 17
Week 1, Wednesday - The End
"The end has come. Some could say a little too early while I might say finally. The thing is, I have photographed quite a bit during this year. Not only have I photographed for this project, but I’ve also done family photographs and other random things along the year. The shutter counter of my Nex-5N shows 79871 actuations, which means, if my math is correct, that I’ve shot something like 50 000 frames during this year (there’s a lot of chaff in there and my keeper rate is about 10%). It’s a big number for me and while I have enjoyed this project a lot, it takes quite a bit of endurance to keep on photographing week after week, to write blog entries and to worry about the next picture. And to be honest there has been a bit of combat fatigue [...]"

Thanks Jeff!

I've really grown to like small forums which at first look felt somewhat 'peripheral' after the DPreview forums. During the year I've noticed that the spirit is much better here than the big and noisy forums. I will surely visit here in future too, but for right now, I need to take little break from photography.
