Monarch Butterflies

At Monarch Grove, http://www.monarchbutterfly.org/butterfly-grove/ near Pismo Beach, California.
By the time we were there, it was almost dusk and sun was setting. All the butterflies retired for the day in
the dark grove. They looked more like leaves in the dark. Used 70-400 and HVL58 flash to shed some "light"
on them. They were clustered about 30 feet (~10M) up, in a dark grove back lit with remaining light.

I'd love to see that sometime. The migration pattern of the Monarchs is pretty impressive. Thanks for posting.

The Monarchs are becoming threatened by loss of their prime food. Locally we are being encouraged to plant milkweed along the backs/borders of our property to help keep their numbers up.

One man's weed is another creatures food!

Thanks Dusty. Interesting notion, the planting of weed for butterflies.
I suppose it is the least we could do after taking over their "jurisdiction".
