David Muench switched to digicams

David Muench, the famous landscape photographer, is well known for his use of 4x5 view cameras, but he switched to using digicams a few years ago. He writes about using a Canon PowerShot G10 and Panasonic Lumix FZ50 in 2010:

He writes about using a Canon PowerShot G10 and Panasonic Lumix FZ50 in 2010:

Panasonic Lumix FZ50: 10.1mp, 1/1.8" sensor, 35-420mm lens
Canon PowerShot G10: 14.7mp, 1/1.7" sensor, 28-140mm lens

I see he flirted with big sensor cameras such as the Canon G10, but then decided to go for smaller.

And then a few months ago in a new article he talks about using a Canon PowerShot SX50 HS and Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70: 16mp, 1/2.3" sensor, 20-1200mm lens

20-1200mm!

Now, it is understood, that those cameras may be too large and/or too expensive for some serious landscape photographers, but there are other, smaller, less expensive tiny sensor digicams that could produce equal results. You might have to give up the EVF and have a somewhat reduced zoom range though.

Now, to get serious. I haven't seen anything written about how David Muench makes use of the digicams that he has been using the last few years for his serious landscape photography. My guess, just a common sense guess, is that he uses the lowest ISO setting and shoots raw. And, of course, he is probably more concerned with the final result than worry himself to death about specs and the minutiae of all the technical angst and hand wringing that is popular these days.

It sure would be cool to see some of his prints at a gallery.

I was curious about his use of tiny sensor digicams for his landscape photography so decided to check out his website.
