Continuing the IR learning experience

I took the IR camera out to practice some more. Here's what I came up with. There's still not much green vegetation at the moment.

Of course you are aware that the old farm equipment is haunted. But it's that midnight trip to the outhouse in the woods where they'll get you for sure. Either way you probably don't have much of a chance.

Indoors IR portrait experiment. The sun was just over the horizon but behind clouds as it shone in the windows.

Thanks Sury. Yes it's a selfie. In order for autofocus and exposure to work best, it needs to be in focus check mode but it can't be a screw drive lens. So, it was take a picture, adjust focus, repeat. Anyways, part of the softness I'm sure is due to that aspect. The other part of the softness could be from the lack of strong IR light. IR photography, by nature, seems to greatly reduce any skin blemishes such as freckles, wrinkles, pores, etc. Perhaps when the IR light source is not direct or as strong then it softens the image a little. I'm still learning all that. The IR filter for my Tokina 11-16mm just came, so hopefully after everything greens up and leafs out I can get some nice IR WA shots.

Thanks Jeff. Cool selfie. Interesting that IR is making blemishes disappear
yet the skin retained texture. Any smoother it would have looked like porcelain.

Sury this is what the shot was like without IR. It was taken the same morning and the IR shot was. I used off camera bounce flash to soften the shadows and that is why the light is coming from the opposite side of the picture. As you can see the rendering of skin tones, details, blemishes, wrinkles, etc is quite different.

I missed it first time around, but IR image could use some catch light.

There definitely are a couple of harsh flash reflections in the visible light image. The bright reflection to the left is probably the pop up flash and the rectangular reflection to the right is probably the off camera flash. I'm not planning on using it for anything though except for comparisons with IR. Interesting thought about the catch light in the IR. Of course with the IR there was no flash involved and so it's hard to compare that to the visible light image.

One thing that stood out to me was that my black t-shirt doesn't look that black in the IR. It also looks a little thread bare under closer examination of the original shot. Another thing is how the two picture frames on the book case changed between the two shots. One frame became lighter in the IR and the other frame became darker in the IR. Also the reason that my glasses are off in the IR shot is because I was getting some horrendous reflections off the lenses and one eye or the other was always obscured.

Interesting observations. I am certainly learning a lot too.
Well, good and bad about learning is it never stops.
