As expected, the weather has changed in to gales and wintery showers. Very photogenic, but as I have been discovering, very diifcult to capture without endangering the precious camera . Here are a few more pictures.

Dunvegan Bonfire Night. In homage to Murph's crowd shots, I tried to get some people in the between the bonfire and myself. The bonfire is given a longship (highland galley?) theme due to the Noreseman (Lord of the Isles) heritage of the Hebrides. More worrying was that there was a St. Andrew's Saltire on the longship which also went up in flames - are you supposed to burn the national flag . I have never been so wet at a family night out . The rain lashed down from the very start. I was wet through despite my wet-weather gear. I heard not a single moan from the hardy locals - a normal night out for them? I was too wet to try and operate the camera/tripod further, even with the ewa-marine rain cover so no "farks"! Maybe another year. They would look spectaular with Dunvegan Castle as the back drop.

Wow, Birma, I can't tell you enough how much I liked this presentation! It is difficult to even start to pick my favorites!

The silhouettes against the shining ocean are lovely, and I'm glad you didn't use too much DRO to try to see all the detail in their shapes. I don't even mind the inclined horizon in that one, it adds to the sense of emotionality.

The grass laying down is lovely of course.

The bonfire looks like a picture I'd come across in an issue of National Geographic (though I wish it were a little wider).

The mountain path seems to have a good dynamic range and fine detail. The long shadows of the grass add a little drama (I add that because it looks like you had to wait for a brief moment of direct sunlight from the look of the clouds).

And, goodness, sea-stacks! I love sea-stacks!

I reckon Birma just about qualifies for the photographic medal of valour for getting some of those shots, braving the wind the rain and the salt spray...probably a digital cam's most deadly enemy.
You almost wouldn't think it was the same place when looking at that pleasant sea and cliffscape in the sunshine...come to think of it, I think I would be tempted too do a portrait pan on that scene (at 1X of course)..just to see....

I am paranoid about getting the dslr wet, which results in much "faffing about", getting the camera out, putting it away, putting the rain cover on the bag, etc. etc. I will try the ewa-marine rain cover again today to see if I can become a bit more proficient in using it and reduce the faffing time.

The sunny shot and the windswept shots are 24 hrs and about 40 miles apart .

Stephen, I would gladly send you some of the excess moisture to help with the drought - I think Skye could easily afford a few days of Aussie sun asa a swap - pity there isn't an exchange system for weather .

That one of the waterfall getting blown back might be almost perpetual motion (while the wind keeps blowing), the mist flies back over on top, settles and seeps back into the stream and tries to fall back over the edge again and again..A thought provoking photo.
I also like the one with the dark cliff on the left with sentinel and the stormy sea, that would look extra good at a large size....how is the temp, getting chilly yet?

Hi Greg - yes, the waterfall going backwards was amazing - a relatively common sight for the locals apparently, but I've never seen it before. The temperature is not that cold today, around 8°C , but the wind chill (force 8-9) makes it feel a lot colder. The BBC forecast says sunny spells for dawn tomorrow so I may risk another early start.

This series definitely supercedes the first series Birma,

I think getting a little wet in the rain has its rewards because these are full of action, nice skies, colourful coastlines, a bonefire, a nice trail and all...
I believe we also meet your tiny daughter through her silhoutte in her mother's arms? She looks cute.

Yes, that is Matilda with her Mum . This has been the her first trip to Scotland and I'll hope they'll be many more.
