Just kidding Yildiz but it does look like you have captured a bird of prey of some sort in that first great shot. Wow look at the garden, you have got your snow for sure now, including ice on the roof edge by the looks, that’s some great weather shots the garden is amazing, something I’ll never see in mine I reckon.

I don't know if it's a bird of prey actually. It was a little too far for me to identify the type of the 'flying onject'. : )) There were a lot of seagulls flying around restlessly, as they usualy do when the snowing halts for a moment to make the scenery visible. But there can be all kinds of birds in search of food at the moment.

The snow has been in full effect for a couple of days now and birds probably use every chance for search of food.

No photo from me - I'm back home in Scotland tomorrow night - but a thought only for any of you caught in the minus 24C etc weather in the central Europe, Balkans to Caucasus region. Been seeing some bad news, hope all are safe.

I'm left wondering how many people (at least in the US) would expect, at the same time in January, to see a blanket of snow over Istanbul, and none visible at all in Colorado. I'm guessing that would surprise most. This thread (and last year's predecessor) has definitely given me (for one) a better appreciation for climates around the world.

Temperature very not as usual in Montreal ... about +10c from the normal. Turning around ~0C with some rain and pleasure waiting in the traffic to go to work ...

The ice melt a little bit and take back on ice, but that provide a kind of freeze wave effect on the water.

Your picture remind me kind of bad surprise when you are waiting close to the house door for the Bus ... (lucky when there is not to much ice in the snow ...).

Same here as well. I'm surprised at the diversity of weather conditions from around the World and these threads make for good photo documentaries.
Thanks all for their contrbutions.

The weather warmed up in Istanbul the last two days and the snow has melted to be replaced by fog.
Here's a photo from early this morning. Hagia Sophia almost appears like floating in the clouds...

Nice cold weather shots Jcoffin, Frank and Doc

Really like your island-in-the-mist shot Yildiz - nice light.

Cold to start with today and then a sprinkling of snow late in the day. It got to about 2 inches deep. As it warms slightly overnight (+2!) it is starting to rain and so it will probably be mostly gone in the morning.

Wow jcoffin now there is something happening I hope that isn’t dangerous, it won’t break off and fall on someone will it? (I know very little about snow build up), btw I kinda like that unusual composure and the B&W.
Doc, you being not all that far from the 35°C below in the Ukraine where people froze too death, I was wondering and a little concerned how it was there in Armenia, but I guess it’s nothing you guys haven’t seen before.
Very atmospheric shot Yildiz, nice capture, Peter Pan’s castle does look like its floating on clouds, I bet Tinkerbelle would like that castle too.

Good one Birma, you finally got some photos of some snow.
As far as going outside with a camera in bad weather I’ve always thought we photographers needed some kind of wearable umbrella, one that can attach securely and allow the hands to be free, and it looks like there is hope on the horizon http://www.nubrella.com all it needs is a way of lifting the front edge a bit so one can aim the camera without obstruction but still be protected from direct precipitation, and maybe the front could be a little larger in forward projection, maybe there are different sizes I’m not sure.

Frank, your lover-couple-trees appear to be destined for better or worse, forever and ever. I like how the sun's warm rays are dispersed across the snow field of the wilderness. : )

Jcoffin, nicely angled into a photo frame, those layers of snow still look very puffy and tender and long time away from melting. : )


Dr. Harout, that's a good detail from your winter. Our icicles are all gone now and we see the sun at the moment.


Birma, that's a nice shot of Snow-In-Falling. : ) Does this mean there's a good blanket of snow on your fields and hills now?
