Have to make some minor corrections here, with your permission.
1- The temple of Garni is definitely not Gothic, but rather Hellenistic (not Greek, mind you, but Hellenistic - a mixture of Greek and Roman. It was built in the first century with Roman Empire's finances (Nero).
2- The view of Odzun has been changed throughout time, and you might call it one of the oldest, though there much older churches.
3- Construction of Churches on hill tops were not to defend them solely. There were other reasons among which is the difficult path towards God's House, and that It should be higher than any other construction... and so forth.
