Thanks Gustav, and thanks for your suggestions, It's still early days yet with the settings, so far I'm trying what I had on the A100, all in camera enhancements set to 'off', even the colour mode set to 'standard' and seeing how that compares with reality, (I can't quite shake the impulse to try to make my photos agree with reality as much as possible), in any case the in camera settings only affect the camera JPEG (as far as I know, but I could be wrong, I'm not really an expert when it comes to file processing), later when I'm converting the RAW file into a .dng I notice the Photoshop/Elements8 has default enhancement settings already, they (to my eye, so far) don't seem too disagreeable, but I look at them and the result very carefully....btw I don't have the 'off' option for HIGH ISO NR on mine only the 'high' - 'nomal' - 'low' settings, I have it on 'low'...also my Version is 3, version 4 doesn't seem to be available at the Sony Australian site...that I could find anyway.
