It's an amazing mountain pano Henry (I'm sure I've seen that one before, but that's ok), I can see the cars on the Highway in front of what looks like a levy bank running right through, it looks too uniform to be natural, so I'm assuming it was manmade for some reason.

I have consulted my wife, who has some knowledge of Gaelic. She thinks that since Anonach means ridge, the Mor ridge is longer than the beag one and hence the reason why Aonach Mor is called "Big Ridge" on account of its length even though it is slightly lower. It may also contain a larger volume of rock on account of its length and width. Who knows.

Ben Nevis does not have a glacier. The snow manages to melt every year. Sometimes June and sometimes by August depending on winter snowfall and weather. This is April and Scotland has had more snow the last three years compared with the previous 10-15 years. The ski centres are happy again. One of the larger centres is based on Aonach Mor and as can be seen skiing is still possible in this picture in the middle of April.

I'm sorry alphaomega, I should have elaborated, I thought it would be common knowledge in Scotland that most of the valleys were gouged out in the typical U shape due to glaciation in past ice ages. There was a show on TV not so long ago about how it all happened and why there are so many U shaped valleys with smoothish sides, they even showed the piles of stones at the end of where the glaciers once ended, pushed up into huge mounds, it was all very interesting.
I guess even the mountains might have been ground down and flattened off to a degree as well, depending on how vast and thick the ice cap was at different times.

Hmm, I am not sure what you are seeing, but there is no highway or cars. I went back to the full 12mp individual photos trying to see the cars and highway you were seeing, but there is nothing. That is just the natural contours of the land. You can get a better look with this satellite photo:

Ok my mistake I thought this was a car (approx in the centre), and then thought I could see another car shape further over to the right. Then I thought there must be a road over there.

Kevin, that one piece is a great amount of ground to take in and at full size the fine details are all intact. A very good pano indeed.

Thank you everybody! This was made with the a700 + 85mm f/2.8 SAM @ f/8. Thirty-eight original files were processed from RAW in LR3, stitched in Hugin, and sent to CS5 for a bit of PP Magic. Hugin, by the way, is a free panorama stitching program that has come a long way since I first downloaded it some years ago. The latest version is very easy to use and stable, and the output is cleaner than ever.

Thank you for the info, Kevin.

I also use HUGIN for my stitching, for almost over a year now. Very pleased with it; as well as being free, it successfully handled some files that some other expensive software completely wrecked and lost me precious time.
