Welcome back Greg. Good to here your house is fully intact, made a real mess of the garden, you can take care of that for sure. Just glad it didn't hit you as bad as it looked like it might have.

Been some nice photos posted here. Johns reflection in sub zero. Henry's gorgeous beach photos. Asters fine photo "hazy shades of Istanbul" and now Gregs aftermath of a cyclone. Quite a mix. ;^)

Thanks DA, Henry, wow that was some experience, I sat up downstairs till 3:00 AM worried about the stormsurge all the boffins predicted would swamp half of Townsville along with huge waves...we were told numerous times to evacuate by radio, tv and mobile text messages, the wind started at about 3:00PM Wed and increased in intensity till about 1:00AM Thursday, but no huge waves came down the street so I hit the sack (after getting out in the middle of it with a pole chainsaw+torch too chop off branches on the avocado tree). It was still blowing and gusting strongly at 9:00AM Thursday. Even though the centre struck about 150km to the north of us it was still quite severe here and went on and on for hour after hour.

I did a bit of catching up on the photos posted, sorry Yildiz, Birma, mvanrheenen, Dusty and Tom I missed you in the first response, I liked all the photos, great light angle Yildiz with the misty effect, great photo, and Henry's Island in the sun, surf and wave action shots are brilliant as usual.

Welcome back Greg!

Glad you're back and your spirit high; : ) Sad about the wonderful blossoms all going astray and the nice trees breaking down so badly, torn from the ground like that. You'll be planting new ones for sure and everything will look normal in a couple of weeks.

We're glad there are no seriously injured people because of Cyclone Yasi. The admistrations acted fast to warn and to evacuate.

The honeyeaters will be back with the first buds definitely.

Thanks for the kind comments on the photos. And glad your only worries were for one 'beer fridge' to not fail you during such a devastating cyclone. A generator for the 'beer bank' indeed!

Thanks Birma, the damage area sure is vast, I went down with the chainsaw to my sisters place 25 km away yesterday to chop up branches into managable sections, and they were everywhere, the back paddock looks like a bomb dropped.

My sisters front yard, all the loose branches have been cleaned up, that eucalypt is too big for us to handle, the city council will get it eventually.

We spent a week in Izmir/Turkey and it was cold and windy, like between 0 and 8 Celsius but the wind made it feel like -10. Now that we're back in France, weather has in improved in Izmir, seems we had bad luck when planning our stay...

South East France is sunny and warm at 15C (forecast says up to 19C this week). Things could be worse

A little chilly today. A clear night sky is probably due from the sight of the deep blue sky and the crescent with Venus close by.
Both shot handheld with the A100 in Auto ISO mode. The camera selected ISO 400 for both shots. A little shake is apparent in the crescent that occurred as I was trying to decide on the best composition. Last instance decisions always create double layers! "Plan ahead and press that button" should be the motto!

Thomas, it appears that you took the weather with you when you landed in Izmir. Happens sometimes. Cote D'Azur sounds fine with those high temperatures though; a rather reversed climate reality it appears.

Hi Yildiz - a very clear beginning to the night indeed .

Lovely colours in that Istanbul sunset. It is a great scene with the boats and buildings that are lit up. Will we miss that bit of A100 noise when we have cameras that measure ISO in millions? Probably .

A100 is soon to become a 'museum artifact' in the Alpha generation I suppose. The nature of referring to the A100 will probably change dramatically when those ISO million values are embedded in the camera dials and software. And the A100 photos will be respected as 'an extinct outcome form of materialization due to in-camera photo processing in-a-not-long-ago era.
