Flowers 2012 (Photoclubalpha Phlora!)

I managed to sneak off for another dawn visit to my favourite meadow .

First of all some Common Spotted Orchids. In fact these may be Heath Spotted Orchids or hybrids. Apparently it gets pretty technical to tell them apart.

Both with Nex 5 and Tamron 60 f/2. I just love this set up for flower macros. It is so easy to get down low with LV, and focus peaking makes focusing a doddle. I was using a third-party lens shade today on the rear LCD screen - just like having a 3 inch view finder .

Here are a couple of shots where I had a very shallow depth of field as I like the effect of the background turning to Monet-esque coloured blur. Is this too much? Does it lose the context of what the picture is about? I'd be interested in your thoughts.

I was going to say it’s so quiet around here you could hear a pin drop. Those are lovely wildflower and orchid shots Birma, all healthy and growing in wild profusion and diversity. I like the composure in #3 and #4 myself, more than the Monet-esque versions. I think the last ones would appeal more, to me at least, if the light wasn’t so flat, I think that’s what I’d like too see, some bright sunlight and contrast in those last ones and I’d like to see how they turn out then.

Good idea about the light/contrast. There is always tomorrow morning, and the forecast suggests there is a chance of some sun .

If the 'girlfriend' is aimed my way then I've got to say that I'm a bit distracted with my new little Bonsai seed germinating successfully. : )

What you see in the photo, in the process of throwng off its seed shell is a Pinus Nigra seedling. I hope to grow it nicely and have one of those gorgeou bonsai trees.

It's the only flower-like subject I photographed lately. : ))

And if the 'girlfriend' wasn't meant for me, then let's all wait for the lady to arrive with her gorgeous seasonal flora. : )))

Thank you for sharing my excitement, Birma! I always admired these miniature plants and wanted to grow a couple of my own.

It's a full 3cm high seedling right now. The manual that came with the sealed package of seeds+pot says that I will wait 1 month before I add any furtilizers and an other 6 months before I start shaping my Bonsai pine.

There are many styles like Chokkan, Bankan, Han-Kengai, Shankan, and many more. I have to decide what kind of shape I'd like it to have and work like a sculptor during the 6th month.

I'll try to keep a photo-track of its growth for sure. : )

Ha ha Yildiz you’re a whacky funster, converting a 200ft tree into a bonsai, but if it’s possible I know you will do it. Great pic btw, awesome bokeh.

Ps of course ‘our girlfriend’ is you, who else? I’m missing the lovely Tulips, Roses, Carnations etc. photos from Istanbul this year so I’m feeling a bit deprived, but if you are busy that’s quite ok, I know the feeling.

That's a lovely flower Dennis. I think we have some of those that have just come out in the garden. Not sure what they are though.

Birma, I'm really jelous of you new photos. This meadow provides you endless photo opportunities both for macro and wide angle.
I'm just not completely jelous because I dove today in our lake and I managed to take some nice photos.

Can't bring the tulips this year but I do have a couple of roses that I photographed this morning...and Hdrangea..and the Iceplant come as bonus.
