A watch dog for some and a watch heron for the more adventurous at heart.

Nice one, David. Living on a Houseboat looks enviable. I saw one published in NY Times a few months ago, all luxieries intact it had more to offer than any cottage of leisure. And apparently the watch herons come for free...

Thanks Yildiz, I had considered living in houseboat. Some of the houseboats cost way more than a house, quite fabulous inside.
A friend of ours in Toronto bought one here in Ladner. Got scared and sold due to this.

Great Heron DA!
Here are some seagulls from our Summer trip to Galveston. There were some kids feeding them as I snapped away.. Suddenly they made this formation, and I got one good one in.

As usual, I'm late to the thread...
But on this page I do like John's gulls and David's heron.
The only heron we see around here is a b*st*rd who raids our fish ponds. O.k. so we put netting over the ponds, But here he/she is over the road...


Maybe zoo shots aren't the best for birds but this one of what? Tweedledum and Tweedledee took my fancy.

Yeah, I bet the Heron thinks the fish pond was put there for its benefit, it’s probably quite confused now after the net introduction.
The last tweedledee-tweedledum photo looked like a Bee Eater in style too me but different colouring to the ones around here, but there is a variant I found called a Red Throated Bee Eater which looks quite similar to the ones in the photo. http://www.oiseaux.net/birds/photos/red ... eater.html

The problem is with next door's pond. Their net has holes and the heron can get at their fish. But the heron seems to choose BIG fish and can only carry them over the fence before dropping them on our lawn.....

Thanks for the link! I cannot remember if there was a label on the cage - probably there was but I don't remember. It was 2004 and my brain is getting addled.
