With the Minolta 7D plus Sigma 70mm macro.
In the garden, lens set to 1:5

A minute later, lens at 1:2

Another minute to set the lens at 1:1

This with my Minolta 50mm f3.5 MD macro on a Minolta XM. The bug moved out of the focal plane - which was about 1/2".

For perspective, from the center of the blossom to the end of a petal is about 1/4 inch long. I didn't have any of my reverse mount ring adapters or tripod, or "custom rear lens cap to hold open the aperture, so this is pretty much hand held with a little sharpening added in PS. I'm actually surprised I was able to get anything at all. How come it's always the things I don't bring that I end up needing?
