Waikiki panorama from the 41st floor

While I am waiting until I can use my A700 again I thought I would post this panorama I made awhile back.

That's beautiful Henry. Lovely (dawn?) colours, and a great vista stretching from the hills down to the city. That would make a great web page heading

Really impressive. Great details in a wonderful soft light, and you really transport the feeling standing high up and beeing able to turn the head without limits.

Is that a park area in the foreground that the houses are heading towards? Hope they keep some open space.

I made this panorama from the lanai of the condo we rented in 2007. The first few days my wife was afraid to even go out on the lanai and wouldn't even approach the windows. She had a bit of vertigo in the beginning and insisted that the curtains be closed so that she couldn't even see out. The first day she was convinced that the floor was not level and in fact it slanted down hill toward the lanai. I finally took my can of shaving cream and put it on the floor to show her it didn't roll down hill. After a few days she was fine and could even go out on the lanai. The lanai for that condo was pretty large -- maybe about 100-120 square feet (10-11 square meters) so I spent a lot of time out there. We lived there for 6 months.

Thank you! I rarely make panoramas, just don't think of them, but I was so impressed with the view from the lanai I had to make this one.

That green open space on the left is the Ala Wai golf course. Also at the end of Waikiki between the buildings you see in the panorama and Diamond Head in the background is the beautiful Kapiolani Park. Also, beach after beach. Other parts of Honolulu also have nice parks.

That mountain in the background is Diamond Head. Most of the buildings in Waikiki are not all that new. Most of the highrises were built in the 1960s and 1970s and there are still some old buildings of 1 to 3 stories that were built in the decades before that. On the far right side of the panorama you can see a bit of the old Royal Hawaiian Hotel (aka Pink Palace) which opened in 1927 and is a Waikiki landmark.

I am champing at the bit to use it. I feel sort of naked walking around Waikiki without it. I do keep a digicam in my pocket all the time though and have used it a bit.

Nice vista Henry, I was checking the map for where the Mauna Kea observatory is located, it looks like it's on a different Island (Hawaii?) to where you are (Oahu?), high too at over 13,000 ft I think I'd get a vapour lock at that altitude.

I set the lens to about 30mm so that the fov wasn't wide angle and since I didn't have a tripod I used the top of the lanai railing. It was flat so I could place the camera on it and just swing it a few degrees for each shot. I tried to overlap each one about 40-50% and I kept the same exposure for frame. I had stitched them together some time back using Panorama Factory but there was a bit of ghosting in a couple of places. A few days ago I tried the free Autostitch and it did this one.

Very nice pano. Autostitch is pretty good, it copes better than most. Ghosting can be a problem. Panorama maker 4 is also worth checking out.
