Forum font...

Unread post by Winston »

Sometimes I need to create a small table. It is difficult to get vertical alignment without a fixed-width font. Could we have access to one?

I would use the code tag if it didn't include the tag name and highlighting.

Here here! I tend to use trial and error, using the "Preview" button judiciously, when I want to do some creative formatting.

Unfortunately, I do no administration, just moderation...I can't answer this or make any changes, but I can banter with you here and keep the thread alive for DK to see!

There are very few forums which allow specific fixed-width fonts - the stylesheet is designed for variable width.

I am no expert in the way that the phpBB forums interpret code, but I guess it should really be possible to force a specific font.

I do not have control-panel type access to many style sheet functions, but I'll take a look at the options now and see if something is there.

I may have added a BBCode instance which allows the font to be changed. I'm really bad at using this.

I have enabled Flash, for what it is worth, and copied a sample of BBCode which appeares to be provided to allow Font changes. It now appears as a BBCode button.

Table Table Table

Tested anyway...

I did; nothing visible in the preview except the tags. I don't see anything but the standard font in your post.

Quote DK's post above and you'll see the insides pf how it works: click the font= button, and you get a spot to put in a font name. There is no list, so I suppose it's looking for standard fonts.

I think the fonts used have to be on your system for you to see them. if your on a mac than I don't know how that works there should be some fonts that work across platforms though. David used courier which is a fixed font that you should be able to see. if your on XP and IE 8 try setting compatability mode to on. I see if you "quote" the post your replying to then the format for the HTML is revealed.

Courier should look diferent than Courier (adobe version)

Courier New should look diferent than Courier New (Microsoft open version)

Euro Sign should look diferent than Euro Sign (microsoft true type)

Must be some sort of system issue. I tried a dozen or so fonts with no effect. I'm running IE7, WinXP/SP2.
