The last Saturday of October was a very wet day here in the D.C. (Washington) area, with a Nor'easter going up the Atlantic coast. It did not stop a group of novice rowers from rowing in the muck, nor did it stop their parents from trying to shoot videos of their kids rowing in the rain. The video was shot using an A55 and a NEX-5N. Auto white balance and auto exposure was used. It was hard enough keeping the equipment from short circuting (no protective gear of any sort). Anyway, now that the school affiliated website has posted the youtube link to the video, I can post a link to the link (there is only one Halloween Regatta 2011 link in the page). Spur of the moment imagery, but hey, the kids were having fun (I think).

That's some pretty good footage! My favorite was that last shot before it faded out, with the bridge in the background and the fat rain drops in the foreground. You've got guts!

You get a good impression of the speed of the rowers. That last shot really shows its lashing down

I need to invest in some sort of water/moisture protective gear for the camera equipment. We were in a boat following the rowers around. The kids got a little cold from the rain and the girls kept blowing by the boys (8 versus 4) which was funny to watch. Thanks for the comments.

I can recommend the Kata rain covers - I used the E702 model with my A100 and A700 comfortabley, even on a tripod. I also use a UV filter on the lens so I can be a bit rough with cleaning off water / spray without having to worry about the lens front element too much. Take as many microfibre cloths as you can with you - I once resorted to using my fleece beanie hat - aaargh, what a mess
