Monster Fog rolling in

As we were driving down south on Highway 1 (Shoreline Highway) my wife and I saw this huge wall of fog
rolling in towards the shore and it was lot more ominous than I could capture (you had to be there )
and I was amazed at the speed with which it was rolling towards coast. We were on one of those stretches
(of about 16 KMs or so) of white knuckle driving. Two lanes, sheer cliff on one side and a deep fall on other side.
Though I did not do the justice in capturing the "dangerous" situation, I did a quick capture and wanted to get out
of that stretch of the road before engulfed in fog.

All the three images are taken with HDR bracketing and merged in Luminous HDR.



What you see at the end of the railing is a sheer drop of 300 - 500 meters. I did not stop till I felt we had some "wiggle" room.

The fog looks very ominous in the first and the cliffs very vertiginous in the last two . A white knuckle ride indeed. Thanks for sharing Sury!

Sury, you probably did well to avoid getting caught! The fog can roll in very, very quickly. This is what you can end up under.....



We lived to the west of San Francisco Bay. Somewhere under that lot is Highway 101 and the bay. You can see the Richmond - San Rafael bridge near the top left... We drove to work in SF every day under stuff like that!

That reminds me of the years I lived in California. Thanks for posting.

It also reminds me of the 1980 movie The Fog made by John Carpenter. It takes place on the California coast. Carpenter put his wife, Adrienne Barbeau, in the lead. She had a radio station inside an old lighthouse:

You may recall that she was also in the old TV series Maude in the early 1970s.

You got it, Tony. You captured perfectly what was my biggest concern.
I stopped for a quick shot and got out as fast as I could.
I knew that once the fog comes near the coast, my options to drive are
limited let alone to pull over to side as well. It was that just that 16 KM
stretch between Mendocino Country and into Sonoma Country was scary
drive.

Henry, I am familiar with the name Adrienne Barbeau but not the movie.
Glad to see few other shots on the theme.
