38 star US flag

Unread post by RareTA »

This is a 38 star flag from 1889. It was the last flag flown at Fort Sisseton, S. Dakota before the fort was decommissioned in 1889. The flag was recently discovered by the staff at the fort. It was preserved and is now on display, at the fort,.for everyone to see and enjoy.
They had 14 seamstress working on it and it took them 1047 hours to preserve it. It was found up in the haymow of the barn back in a corner. The box it was in had 1889 on it with nothing else as to what was in it.

Great sets Ken and a fascinating find to top it all. The second one in the second set and the B&W are my most favorite.

Thanks again Sury! We had a great time there. I had not been to the celebration since I was a kid. More years than ago than I can remember. It started to rain hard around 4:30 so we took off for home. The guy that is the head man in charge of the grounds at the fort is Nancy's cousins husband. He is the guy that found the flag in the barn.
